CHEAPO CHEAPO RECORDS

That glorious emporium of musical tat and marvels, Soho's Cheapo Cheapo Records, closed its doors on the 29th of March 2009. The shop had been central to my life ever since I came to London in 1985, and I wrote a series of posts about coming to terms with its loss; click on any title below to be taken to the full post.

In January 2018 I reworked these posts into a single piece called Cheapo Cheapo Records - The Complete Story, which can be found here

Please note that it's "Complete" only in the sense that the main beats of the story are present. To make it easier to absorb as a single piece the material in the original posts has been heavily condensed and reworked. The original posts are more discursive.

There is also a post called Cheapo Cheapo Memories, here, collecting comments by others.

Below is a list of the original posts in chronological order from January 2010 to March 2011. Click on any title to be taken to the full piece.
